Persephonia is a photographic project born from the inspiration of Claudia Gafà (playing gym of Ragusa) who wanted my contribution for their dance theater show I was born a gypsy, asking me to make photography dance. I was born a gypsy it is therefore a dance theater show by the Ludens gym company which originates from some poems by Alda Merini, which in turn cite the myth of Proserpina/Persephone. This photographic project takes its name from the latter.
The result was a kind of scenography, another plane where every now and then something happens off stage.
The images hope to defuse the prejudice that photography describes the visible and rather tends to describe a world submerged in emotions, fights of women more real and stronger than the mythological ones who are continually divided between Hades and Demeter, between winter and summer, between pain and joy.
Ambition, audacity, is to portray the invisible, the imperceptible, the emotion…
All photographs are printed in 30 format×45 are baritata menu with circulation a 5 pieces.
I was born a gypsy it is a gesture of freedom.
It is not a declaration of war, rather a placing oneself in the status of refugee.
These women in search of peace, before confronting the outside world, they go through an internal struggle. Then it is muscles and skin that occupy space and time and finally invest the spectator, aware of the internal battle to which he is subjected.
We expect a dance theater show but I was born a gypsy it is nothing more than a declaration of freedom with a request for participation from other subjects, to create community, civic sense, public opinion, politics, vita.
